Four Red Raiders Selected In The 2026 MLB Draft
The 2026 MLB Draft took place for two days over the weekend, and several Texas Tech players were selected for their domination of the diamond! Let's look at each day of picks where Red Raiders continued to make us proud as fans and alumni.
Day 1
Logan Hughes
Day 1 of the MLB Draft this year saw two Red Raiders selected to the big leagues.
The No. 17 overall pick from the Houston Astros happened to be Logan Hughes from Texas Tech University. This makes Hughes the fourth player in program history to be selected in the first round.
Hughes plays outfield and first base with a .375 batting average, 18 home runs, and 71 RBIs in the 2026 season alone. During his career at Texas Tech, he scored 37 total home runs, the seventh-most in program history.
Caden Ferraro
The second Red Raider to be selected during the MLB Draft was outfielder Caden Ferraro in the third round by the St. Louis Cardinals.
A Second Team All-Big 12 player, Ferraro impressed many fans this past season at Tech with a batting average of .374, eight home runs, and 46 RBIs.
On top of it all, Ferraro is just one of five Red Raiders with an OPS of over 1.000.
Day 2
Kyeler Thompson
Sunday afternoon in Day 2 of the 2026 MLB Draft also saw two Red Raiders selected. The first was center fielder Kyeler Thompson who was picked up by the nine-time World Series Champions LA Dodgers.
Thompson's hitting and on-base percentages are impressive enough, adding to the fact that, just last season, he successfully stole 26 of the 32 attempted stolen bases.
Thompson appeared in 100 games during his career at Tech, 99 of which were career starts.
Matt Quintanar
The Philadelphia Phillies picked up catcher Matt Quintanar on Day 2 after just one season at Texas Tech. After showing his domination behind home plate, Quintanar stopped 22 players attempting to steal bases out of 49. That's a total of 45%—the MLB average is only 29%.
Defense isn't the only thing Quintanar impresses with, as he also hit six home runs and 46 RBIs during the last season at Texas Tech.
