The Most Popular NFL Player in Texas Might Surprise You
Even though a Texas football team didn’t make it to the NFL Championship this year (big shocker), many Texans are still very excited to tune into the big game this weekend.
Those of us in Lubbock, Texas are especially excited because Patrick Mahomes, the Kansas City Chiefs’ star quarterback who grew up in Tyler, Texas and then went to Texas Tech University, is playing for his chance at a third championship title.
Considering this, you might assume that he would be one of the most popular NFL players in the Lone Star State right now. Surprisingly, that is not the case.
A study was done by Bettingsits.co.uk, where they looked at google search data from over the past 12 months. The data collected was specifically to see which NFL players were most frequently searched and deemed the most popular in each state.
The number one ‘most popular’ player in Texas, along with 30 other states, is Travis Kelce.
Whether this result is due to his skill as one of the best tight ends in NFL history or because of his dating life, I’m not sure. However, I am a fan of Kelce in general, so I am content either way and excited to see how he plays this weekend.
I mentioned Mahomes as a Texas favorite, and he did make the top 3 on this study’s list. Kelce is #1 with an average of 245,983 searches per month, Aaron Rodgers is #2 with an average of 185,208 searches per month, and Mahomes ranks #3 with an average of 165,625 searches per month.
It would be interesting to see how these searches change during and after this weekend. Only time will tell.
