Dasher Diary: The Heartwarming Reason One Customer Decided to Tip Twice
It's true a nice word can go really far in Amarillo. A smile, a compliment, and a nice gesture when you are out delivering is very highly appreciated. While you are working, you sometimes forget that there really are good people out there.
You don't always see the people that you are delivering to. You don't always get to have that interaction. Many handoffs are simply 'leave at the door', which I completely understand, as that's exactly how I prefer my own orders.

So when you are out delivering food, it sometimes gets very boring. You pick up the order. You drive to the drop-off location, and you deliver the food. Then you go on to get another order, and it usually goes the same way.

The pickup restaurants change. The drop-off addresses change, and the tips fluctuate. A lot of the time, you see the tip, and you get discouraged because I know I just saved you time having to go pick up the order. I saved you the frustrations of waiting for your food.

I know I also saved you wear and tear on your car. So that alone should warrant some sort of a tip. It’s surprising how many people believe a $2 delivery payout is sufficient, given the service provided.

Then there are the deliveries that make it all worthwhile. Recently, I picked up a couple of smoothies from Tropical Smoothie for a young lady at her workplace. I walked in and had a short conversation. It wasn't much, but she was sweet.

As I drove off and headed back to get another delivery, that is when I received a message through DoorDash.
When those added tips come in, they really do make you smile. Someone who gets it. And this was someone who had already tippe,d she decided to add more. You don't know how much that is appreciated.

I was sure to let her know.
I am not sure how this happens, but it surely seems just when you need it most, a customer pops up and makes it all worthwhile. We really appreciate customers like this.
