Arena Football Returns to Amarillo: What Fans Need to Know
Amarillo's local sports scene has experienced numerous changes over the years, ranging from team name changes to league additions. We've had periods without teams, followed by their return—truly a roller coaster ride.
A Brief History of Amarillo's Local Sports Teams
Amarillo baseball has had the Gold Sox, the Texans, the Dilla's, the Amarillo Sox and now we have the Amarillo Sod Poodles. Hockey, we have had the Wranglers, the Gorillas, the Bulls, and back to the Wranglers.
Arena Football has seen changes, too. We have had the Dusters and the Venom. There was news of the Dusters making a comeback, but that did not materialize. They were instead kicked out of the league earlier this year. So it looked like the end of arena football in Amarillo.

There was a post going around about the team being for sale, so we just had to sit and wait to see if Amarillo would get arena football back for the fall. The good news is that it looks like we are going to get our wish.
New Ownership Brings Fresh Hope
A recent social media post gave us the good news we have been looking forward to hearing. Yes, Amarillo will have a team again soon. The word is they will take the field in March of 2026. No, we don't know the name yet. We don't know who we will be rooting for. We are just glad that we will have a team to scream and shout on to victory.
What Fans Can Expect Moving Forward
A powerhouse ownership group is taking over a force on and off the field. Amarillo can't wait for this to be a reality again. The news in the sports world is definitely looking up for our area.
