WATCH: Shocking Surveillance Video Shows Garland Gunfight
GARLAND, TEXAS - Doorbell camera footage captured a terrifying, deadly shootout in Garland that ended with 23-year-old suspect Bernardo Mares Jr being killed by police after he allegedly fired "dozens" of shots, one of which hit a police officer in the leg.
The shooting is being described as a "police ambush."
Just after midnight Monday morning, officers responded to West Wanda Drive for reports of gunshots earlier in the evening. Mare's was shot and killed after he "pointed an object" at police.
The surveillance footage shows the suspect speeding through a neighborhood in a white truck directly after firing shots at two officers a street over. You can hear multiple gunshots a few seconds after the police pull up behind the suspect's vehicle.

Neighbors from the surrounding area say that Mares was taking part in a big family barbeque late Sunday night and that shots were heard from that event, leading to the call for police assistance.
Neighbor Victor Torres reportedly heard several gunshots and assumed people had too much to drink at the barbeque and got "a little to rowdy." The true motives for the shootout are still unclear.
