If Gabe Holt Says He’s Playing Saturday Afternoon, Then He’s Playing Saturday Afternoon
Friday afternoon, Texas Tech baseball coach Tim Tadlock took to the podium to field some questions from the media about the Red Raiders' pending battle against Michigan Saturday in Omaha.
One of the questions surrounding the ball club was the status of Gabe Holt, who required surgery on his thumb after a slide into first base trying to leg out a single against Oklahoma State.
For most people, that would keep them out for a few games -- or even a few weeks. But according to Tadlock, if Holt tells him that he's playing, then we should expect to see him hitting leadoff come Saturday.
That's not the answer I expected to hear coming into the College World Series, but if there's anything I've learned about Gabe Holt during his time at Texas Tech, it's that he's the ultimate competitor. You wanna take away his thumb? Fine, they'll just make a contraption so he can put his glove on.
I would be surprised to see Gabe Holt hitting leadoff for the Red Raiders in game 1, but crazier things have happened. I mean, it is Omaha after all.
The Red Raiders take on the Michigan Wolverines in the first game of the College World Series beginning at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 15th from TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha, Nebraska.
