Last night, the Houston Texans traded their first-round pick this year and next year to select Deshaun Watson.

This trade was a bit surprising to me because I thought Houston would definitely pick Patrick Mahomes if the Browns didn't pick him up in the 12th or if the Giants didn't in the 23rd.

However, after Kansas City traded up to No.10 and snagged Patrick Mahomes, the Texans had no choice but to trade up from No. 25 and select Watson.

It's a win-win for both teams, really. The Texans needed a quarterback and it was a smart decision to trade up for Watson, who shows up in crucial moments and is a true leader -- a critical component for a successful QB. The Texans were one of the worse offenses in the NFL last season, and they were in need of a quarterback. Picking up Watson already puts them on the list as a competitive contender.

It goes without saying that the Texans have a great organization and a great coach. While plenty of words have been used to describe the Texans and Bill O'Brien himself, they always manage to put themselves back in contention, regardless of their quarterback situation.

Watson may take more time to develop his game to the NFL, but there's no doubt that the Texans future already looks better. Watson will bring incredible talent to Houston after successfully playing at Clemson, where he threw for 4,593 yards and 41 touchdowns last season, leading the Tigers to the national title.

Although Mitchell Trubisky and Patrick Mahomes were top 10 picks, Watson might have the most success in Houston for one specific reason. Watson likes to win. He left Clemson with a 32-3 record as a starter. Houston has made the playoffs four of the past six season, and if they can make it to the playoffs with Brock Osweiler, I have full confidence they can with one of this years most promising prospect in this years class.

After all, he does recognize talent when he sees it, as he previously compared himself to Patriots QB, Tom Brady... or, in his words, "The Goat."
