Environmental Group asks Whataburger to Replace Styrofoam Cups
I love Whataburger. Just writing about this makes me want to go and get some! But I also have a nasty habit... I LOVE the Whataburger cups! Everyone calls them Styrofoam but they're actually polystyrene. They're really great at keeping my drink (and shake) nice and cold! But they are so bad for the wildlife! Which is why officials from Environment Texas and other groups have sent out a petition that's been signed by more than 50,000 signatures, and letter to Whataburger requesting that Whataburger stop using the polystyrene cups in exchange for something more eco-friendly.
Whataburger released a statement that reads:
"At Whataburger, we're always looking for the best way to serve our customers and we value their feedback. We continue to look at cup alternatives that keep drinks at the right temperature, but we have a lot to consider from a quality and supply perspective when meeting our customers' expectations. We will share any updates if we have news to share. In the meantime, we continue to urge customers to properly dispose of our cups."
Places like McDonald's and Dunkin' Donuts have already phased out polystyrene cups in favor for a recyclable plastic. It's not really the same in terms of keeping the drink cold, but in the end, it's better for the environment. On the upside, Whataburger has teamed up with Yeti Rambler and have released a Whataburger Tumbler that not only keeps your sodas cold or your coffee hot, but it's also reusable (way better for the environment!) and made of stainless steel! It's sure to be a great gift for the holidays!
