Jack Kevorkian, the physician who acted on his belief in the appropriateness of physician-assisted suicide, has died of complications related to a long-standing kidney ailment at Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich. He was 83.

In the 1990s Kevorkian came to infamy when he began helping patients who requested to die. He assisted in more than 100 suicides; his medical license was revoked in 1991. Kevorkian assisted in more than 100 suicides and tried for murder numerous times but convicted only once. Second degree murder in 1999. The murder conviction came after Kevorkian showed a videotape of himself administering a lethal injection to an ALS patient in a 1998 segment of the CBS news program "60 Minutes." He served eight years of a 10 to 20 year sentence.

Critics often claimed that Kevorkian's highly public antics clouded the issue of physician-assisted suicide, but never-the-less, he had a major impact on how we Americans view the topic of euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide.

"You Don't Know Jack" was made in 2010 and stars Al Pacino, John Goodman and Susan Sarandon. Barry Levinson directs the all-star cast and changed my entire view of Dr. Kevorkian and his work that had been villified and severely slanted by the media.  An important movie in my opinion and one that everyone should see. There are so many misgivings about Kevorkian and his crusade and this film really shows you both sides of the coin. Here is the Trailer for you:

Kevorkian was also a proud artist. here are some of his original paintings.
