Ropes ISD School Teacher Dies in Tragic Car Accident
A 2nd grade teacher at Ropes ISD has been killed in a deadly one-vehicle accident.
KAMC News reports that a 15-year-old driving a pickup east on FM 1585 in Hockley County fell asleep at the wheel at Hummingbird Road and drifted toward a ditch. The teen woke up and over-corrected, causing the vehicle to flip.
A passenger, 48-year-old Jill Bailey Reep, was thrown from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Texas DPS says that she was not wearing a seat-belt.
Reep was a 2nd grade teacher and instructional technologist at Ropes Elementary School. Yesterday, the school posted on social media expressing their condolences to the family. The school also made aware that the Hockley County Livestock Show has started a Reep Memorial Fund to help support the Reep family.
The Hockley County Livestock Show, being held at the Mallet Event Center in Levelland this Saturday, is currently accepting donations for the family. Donations can also be delivered to the offices of Ropes ISD.
