City of Lubbock Talks More About Plans for 2024 Splash Pads
While Summer is coming to a close for 2023 many Lubbock area residents are ready for next Summer after the City of Lubbock made an announcement via social media. During the 2023 Summer three out of the four public pools in the Lubbock area were shut down for repairs and then ultimately never reopened due to the damage being more serious.
After those pools were closed, indefinitely, the decision came to instead replace these pools that served the community with splash pads. After some time the City of Lubbock has announced their upcoming plans for the splash pads replacing the old pools via a social media post and video. The video initially states that funding for the three upcoming splash pads have been approved and then had many of the city council members who will have those splash pads in their district.
Many expressed their content for the splash pads such as District 1 councilmember Christy Martinez-Garcia discussing the great opportunity for something new for that community. District 2 Mayor Pro Tem Shelia Patterson Harris also explained how excited she is for the opportunity for parents and children to have something new and cool while also supporting growth to the community.
In the video there are some renderings of what the splash pads could look like but are not the final designs just yet. Each will be a different design to offer a unique experience to that specific neighborhood and community. Construction for those splash pads will begin this Fall, 2023, and should be completed by the Summer of 2024 for the Maxey, Mae Simmons, and Rodgers parks. Are you excited for these splash pads or will you be hanging out at the public pool at Clapp Park? Let us know in the comments below.
