Beto O'Rourke is coming back to Lubbock before early voting begins in the 2022 election. O'Rourke is challenging Republican Governor Greg Abbott in Texas' gubernatorial race and attempting to rally support before early voting begins on October 24th.

O'Rourke is down in the polls to Abbott, with the Real Clear Politics average showing the incumbent governor up around 8 points with less than a month to go. For O'Rourke, this trip to Lubbock will probably be among his last as he attempts to rally college students and independents to break for him.

Meanwhile, Governor Abbott has enjoyed a lead in the polls, but for him to win, Republican voters have to get out and vote. Also crucial for Abbott is the vote in rural Texas, where he and other Republican statewide candidates need to run up the vote count to offset potential losses in the more urban areas of Texas.

O'Rourke will appear at Texas Tech University on Tuesday, October 11th at 10 a.m. As of the publication of this story, the location of the campaign event is unknown. O'Rourke last traveled to Lubbock in July when he held a rally at the Science Spectrum.

The last day to register to vote is Tuesday, October 11th. Early voting in the 2022 midterm elections begins on October 24th, with election day held on Tuesday, November 8th. To see a sample ballot in Lubbock County, visit votelubbock.org.
