So we had an epic battle of the foods where two dishes faced off against one another causing a mass war in the streets of Facebook's comment section. Well, maybe it was more like people were wanting to brag their food was better. Well we are back with two classic foods that you might've had if you grew up in or around a hispanic household. Caldo vs. Barbacoa!

Barba Whata?

So lots of people don't know what barbacoa is and that's ok. It's meat that's been slow cooked to the point that it's tender but it's also a little greasy. Or a lot of greasy depending on where you get it from. This food is a classic comfort food in the winter on a day when the wind is cold and the morning is just going on forever.

My favorite place to get barbacoa is Montelongo's, of course, and rolled into a flour tortilla. The toppings are what make the meal because you can be simple and just add a dash of salt or go all out and add cilantro, onions, tomato, avocado and limes. Now you can't have barbacoa (you can actually) without a nice cold Big Red, yes the soda that's basically bubblegum flavor.

Caldo in the Casa!

Nothing says lazy chilly winter day like a nice bowl of caldo! Caldo is soup but not any soup, it's made with all of the love your ancestors have passed on to your family and warms your soul. There are different kinds of caldo like res (beef), pollo (chicken), pes (fish), vegetable and many more that it's kind of hard to choose a specific favorite kind of caldo. I like siete mares. For this instance we will go with caldo de res to make things easier.

Caldo de res involves beef, carrots, cabbage, potatoes, corn, tomato (sauce and chunks), onions, garlic etc. all put into a pot with water. The caldo is a hearty meal but you can never go wrong by adding some rice to your caldo to soak up all that yummy broth. People will also add a jalapeño to their caldo for a bit of spice as well as cilantro and lime juice.

Your Champion!

Now between these two yummy foods which one is the winner? Due to the versatility and time that goes into making it the clear winner is...caldo! Which two foods will face off against each other next and who will be the best winter food of all time? Let us know!
