My mom likes to tell the story of nearly missing a plane to California because me. I was watching Sesame Street and had to be literally dragged away from it to visit Grandma.

So many of us grew up with PBS programming, including Mister Roger's Neighborhood - a show that was fundamentally about kindness, empathy and love. I start tearing up even thinking about the positive impact this program had on generations of children.

Lubbock's Alamo Drafthouse will begin screening a new documentary Won't You Be My Neighbor? later this month as part of their "Drafthouse Recommends" series. $1 of every ticket sold will be donated to PBS to help ensure future generations of children learn the invaluable lessons we did- how to be a decent human being, and a great neighbor.
