You Won’t Want to Miss This West Texas Pumpkin Party
For those of us who seem to fall in love with the Autumn season more and more each year, we're abundantly aware that the proper pumpkins are required in order to create a gourd-eous holiday display. The good news is that in one month from today, you can grab a spook-tacular collection of this winter squash and celebrate the crop at the same time.
On the second Saturday of October each year, West Texans have the chance to enjoy the Punkin Days Festival in the Pumpkin Capital of the USA, Floydada, Texas.
This wickedly fun event features a cornucopia of pumpkin-themed activities including a pie eating contest and pumpkin decorating. They also have live music, a dance, fang-tastic food, beer and wine tastings, a car show, tons of kids activities, and, of course, over 70 different types of pumpkins.
From Mammoths and Jacks to Cinderellas and Fairytales, they have pumpkins of all shapes, sizes, and colors. Best of all, the Assiter Punkin Ranch specializes in pumpkins that are intended for decor, not consumption. That's why they're all meticulously hand-harvested. Needless to say, this is a true labor of love.
Kalli Martin, president of the Floydada Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture, notes that Punkin Days is "just a solid day full of celebration and fun for our community and surrounding areas. We are looking to celebrate the harvest [and] we have people who come from hundreds of miles to come visit." Best of all, the main event is free to the public.
Make sure to mark your calendars for Saturday, October 9th, and visit the Floydada Chamber website for more information.
