You Still Have Time To Enter The District 9 VFW BBQ Cookoff

We love BBQ in Lubbock and on Friday, May 7th there will be cookoff that anyone can participate in. Think you have that great recipe for ribs? Can you grill the perfect steak? The VFW District 9 BBQ Cookoff wants you to enter this year's contest.

The BBQ Cookoff is sponsored by Post 2466 and will be held at 501 114th Street. Setup for the BBQ Cookoff is on Thursday, May 6th and noon. On Friday, May 7th at 7:30am, the Cook's Meeting, Meat Inspection, and Team Breakfast will be held. Cooking can begin after the cook's meeting.

There are different categories and fees for the cookoff. That includes Beans, 3 Meat, Pork Ribs, Whole Chicken, Steak, and Gold Star Dessert. All items must be cooked on site except for the dessert which must be hot and made on the same day.

Judges for each category will be celebrity judges and the dessert judges will include Gold Star Mothers.

Steve Evans joined The Chad Hasty Show on Wednesday evening to discuss the BBQ Cookoff and how this cookoff is really open to anyone who wants to try their hand at competition and how there might be other categories (smoked queso anyone?) added before the big event.

I will also be out at the event as a judge and just going around and seeing what everyone is cooking. Who knows, we may even do a special edition of The Chad Hasty Show from the site. One thing is for sure, it will be a great time.
