Why You Should Visit a Lubbock Nursing Home This Holiday Season

The holiday season is all about spending time with friends, family, and loved ones. As you get older, you start to appreciate this more and value the time spent together more than the gifts or food that might be a part of the celebration.
Whether you decide to spend this season with your relatives, or your chosen family, no one wants to be alone during such a festive time. This is especially true for those living in nursing homes. Many elderly folks want nothing more than to see their family, but far too many are left without visitors.
Whether their family lives far away and can’t travel, their family decides they don’t want to take the time to visit, or they simply don’t have family around at all, it can be heartbreaking to be alone when everyone else is spending time with their loved ones. That is why I encourage anyone with the time and care to visit a nursing home near them and spend some time with the folks that might not have anyone to visit them.
A little bit of company can go a long way. Even just sitting down and asking them about their favorite holiday memories, playing cards, or going on a walk can brighten up an otherwise dark time.
I occasionally volunteered at a memory care facility when I was in high school, and I loved hearing the stories these people had to share. Knowing that I could provide some company, even for a short while, was a great experience. So, let’s not forget about the elderly, because they deserve your time just as much as anyone else does.
