What Are Facebook’s New Privacy Basics and How Do They Affect You?
Facebook is coming out with changes and updates to their privacy policies effective January 1, 2015. What does this mean for Facebook users?
The company has introduced Privacy Basics to help users understand how to stay private on the site and how Facebook uses their data.
Much of the information in Privacy Basics isn't new. However it's a great introduction if you're lost or new to way to keep your information private. In reality, the social media giant's privacy policies aren't really changing that much.
Online tutorials about Facebook's privacy policies are broken up into three major categories: 'What Others See About You,' 'How Others Interact With You' and 'What You See.' These can help users navigate the changes better and understand what, where, who and how their information is used.
Although this doesn't actually solve the core privacy issues people have with Facebook, it does help explain the intended behavior of the site.
Even veteran users would benefit from taking a quick tour to discover if anything is used in a way they might not expect. Any feedback or criticism about the new privacy policies before they go into effect, can be delivered directly to Facebook.
But like anything else, is it really private once you put it on the Internet?
