United Supermarkets, LLC and Mrs Baird’s Bread® announced the December recipients of the second annual Teachers On The Rise program. Since the launch in early September 2013, nominations have poured in from students in the South Plains explaining why their teacher(s) deserve this special recognition.

The three December winners include Jenny Martinez of North Elementary School (Lamesa ISD), Brian Ellyson of Talkington School for Young Women Leaders (Lubbock ISD) and Julie Bumbaugh of Lubbock-Cooper High School (Lubbock-Cooper ISD).

“We are excited to honor these three magnificent teachers for their outstanding contributions to our community,” said Shelby Crews, community relations manager for United. “The Teachers On The Rise program helps remind our teachers of the pivotal role they play in our children’s lives every day.”

To nominate a teacher, students can log onto www.MrsBTeacher.com to fill out a brief entry on why their teacher(s) deserve special recognition. Winning teachers receive a $100 United Supermarkets/Market Street/Amigos gift card and a $100 VISA gift card. The student who nominates a winning teacher also receives a $50 VISA gift card. New nominations are accepted every month.

“We saw a record of nominations during the fall semester, and we are reading about many dedicated and deserving teachers in the South Plains,” said Jerry Cureton, sales director for Mrs Baird’s. “We will continue to collect nominations during throughout the spring semester. There’s no greater gift a student can give to a teacher than by telling them how much they are appreciated.”

Three more South Plains teachers – one elementary, middle school/junior high and high school – will be named Teachers On The Rise in January and every month this school year.

Teachers On The Rise is also sponsored by the Texas Classroom Teachers Association, KAMC-TV, 102.5 KISS-FM, News Talk 790 KFYO.
