Looking to join the list of accomplished Kingsbury apprentices, Texas Tech senior quarterback Nic Shimonek has been named to the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Watch List.
In 2016 as the backup Nic Shimonek completed 38-of-58 passes for 464 yards and six touchdowns, with just one interception.
Graham Harrell was the last Red Raider to win the award while Patrick Mahomes was named as a finalist last season.
According to texastech.com, the Johnny Unitas Award is presented annually to the nation's top college quarterback based on character, citizenship, scholarship achievement, leadership qualities and athletic accomplishments. The award will be presented at a Dec. 9 ceremony in Baltimore, Maryland.
Junior Wide Receiver, Keke Coutee has been put on the watch list for the Biletnikoff Award, which is given to the nation's best receiver. Last season was a breakout year for Coutee as he caught 55 passes for 890 yards and 8 touchdowns.
The last Texas Tech player to win the award was Michael Crabtree when he won it in 07 and 08.
According to texastech.com, The 2017 Biletnikoff Award winner will be announced Dec. 7 during The Home Depot College Football Awards Show that airs from 6-8 p.m. CT on ESPN. Former Heisman Trophy winner Desmond Howard will present the trophy during the show.
