Two Red Raider Receivers Shine in NFL Preseason
Everyone knows about Texas Tech's most popular alum in the NFL, but there are two guys who caught a lot of passes from Patrick Mahomes who are still with their first teams in the NFL and still looking to make an impact. They also both had big impacts on their franchise's first preseason games.
First up is Cameron Batson, who played with Mahomes for three seasons before catching his last five touchdowns from Nic Shimonek in 2017. Batson has been with the Titans ever since making most of his impact at the NFL level as a return but struggling to find consistency through an injury-plagued career so far.
This weekend though, in the Titans preseason debut against the Falcons, Batson caught a touchdown from former Toledo quarterback Logan Woodside in the second quarter on a beautiful back-shoulder fade.
The next receiver has some similar traits to Batson in that most of their NFL success has been as a returner because of injuries and more. Jakeem Grant though is on his second contract with the Dolphins and is considered one of the best returners in the NFL.
He showed that elite return skill in the Dolphin's first preseason game against the Bears.
If only the Dolphins could Jakeem into the fold on offense. The dream for Grant, pun intended, would be for the Dolphins' to cut him. I know that sounds counterintuitive, but reuniting with either Mahomes/Andy Reid in Kansas City or Kliff Kingsbury in Arizona could do wonders for Grant who would finally have a play-caller that knew how to utilize his skill set.
There were several other Red Raiders who saw action this weekend as well. Both TJ Vasher and Terence Steele were suited up for the Dallas Cowboys. Steele saw plenty of action at offensive tackle. Dakota Allen saw defensive snaps for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
