Wednesday brought high winds in Lubbock and across the South Plains, knocking down power lines and trees.

Lubbock Fire Rescue posted the photo below Wednesday afternoon. Taken at a home on 17th Place, the massive tree spreads from the front yard into the street.

It's unknown exactly how many trees were felled by the wind storm over the course of the day. Thankfully, the City of Lubbock Parks Department helped remove many trees throughout the day, according to LFR.

Fallen trees, however, were not the only issue affecting citizens. Downed power lines impacted power for thousands of LP&L customers, and dust kicked up by the high winds reduced visibility for drivers who battled to keep their vehicles from veering into other lanes.
