Texas is mad huge. And that means you have a ton of options if you're looking to move. You can even move to the big city and not live in the big city. Welcome to the burbs, yo.

I've always said Lubbock is a suburb, just without the actual big city most burbs are attached to. And most of you, whether you came from or are moving to a big city, will be living in the suburbs. Its pretty rare to live in the city proper in most major metros, that's for businesses and condo preppies only. Real people live in a burb somewhere and venture to the city for culture and excitement. So scope out the best burbs in our state.

Dallas/Fort Worth: McKinney. The metroplex has had an ongoing competition between all of its subs to be the best. And this too will probably change in the next 6 months. Once it was Arlington, but now that's way too touristy. Then it was Plano, but that's too rich for some. So now its McKinney. Next week, Addison, or Richardson, or Flower Mound, or Grand Prairie. Well probably not Grand Prairie, or Oak Cliff.

Houston: Pearland. I've never been to Pearland. As long as its not Baytown or Texas City then you're probably OK. But at all costs avoid Katy as it has boomed more than it can handle and is now home to the world's biggest interstate screw-up. You will never ever get anywhere in Katy.

Austin: Round Rock. Technically anywhere in Austin is bad right now. I've even heard their deputy mayor tell people to NOT move to Austin. (It was on the Bobby Bones Show a few years back. And, yes, even Bobby moved to Nashville.) So just don't move there. All you get is non-stop live music 24 hours a day. There's a city ordinance that disallows pre-recorded music anywhere at anytime in the city limits, it must be a live band on every street corner. True story.

San Antonio: New Braunfels. (Yes its New BRAUNFELS, not New BraunSfels, there's only one S and its at the end.) I like this approach to the suburbs, move to one that's actually not a part of the city at all, but is miles and miles away and completely a different city altogether. Plus it has Schlitterbahn which is awesome. And you can float the river, which has a newly installed river bed of used beer cans so there's never a sharp rock for your feet to touch, just smooth never sharp aluminum.

If you want to see a legit write-up on these places go here. Or better yet, go there and see them yourself.
