As I write this, the current conditions in Lubbock are: cold, dark, and light snow is falling. It's about 17 degrees outside with a wind chill of somewhere below 17 degrees. Yes, it's cold outside and it's only going to get colder.

It's also supposed to snow more overnight and travel on Thursday morning (February 3rd) could be dangerous. Already we're seeing delays and cancellations for Thursday in Lubbock and the surrounding areas, which you can see here.

If you do need to drive around Wednesday night or Thursday morning, just remember that some roads in Lubbock are more dangerous than others. Or at least during winter weather events, some roads see the most car accidents. If you've lived in Lubbock for longer than year, you may already know the roads and areas to stay away from.


Yes, the map is mainly Loop 289, all along I-27 and all along the Marsha Sharp Freeway. The City of Lubbock also reminded everyone that flyovers throughout the city could be very icy and dangerous.

Lubbock is not expected to get above freezing until Friday afternoon, so take it easy when driving. If you're planning on driving anywhere else in Texas, be sure to check road conditions on Thursday as many parts of the state will see snow and ice overnight.
