Men lie. Women lie. Numbers never lie, and these particular numbers say that Texas Tech will be in the Final Four before losing to Illinois. The numbers in question have been extrapolated by the Shot Quality Algorithm from shotquality.com.

The ShotQuality algorithm is built by tracking the percentage of potential shots by both teams which is affected by open and contested shots as well as which shots are taken. The shotquality.com website says the algorithm is, "calculated by multiplying the percent chance a shot has of going in, i.e. the probability that the basket is made and the type of shot, denoted by the no. of points that shot entails - either a 2-pointer or a 3-pointer."

I'm not a mathematician but that means to me that Texas Tech's defense can affect enough shots to beat the teams they would potentially match up within the Midwest Regional.

Here's proof with the guys at ShotQuality taking Texas Tech all the way to the Final Four:

If you trust the NYPost for anything, they have also predicted the Red Raiders to get to the Final Four with this analysis:

"The Big 12 will have a team cutting down the nets. Just not the team anyone expects. Baylor doesn’t even get to the second weekend. Texas Tech is the last team standing, riding the hot hand of Georgetown transfer Mac McClung and coach Chris Beard’s typically stingy defense. McClung sends Arkansas home in the second round with a late jumper and the Red Raiders dominate the paint against Ohio State in the Sweet 16, leading to an Elite Eight matchup with North Carolina. Texas Tech’s pressure gets to the Tar Heels’ young guards, and Beard and Co. reach their second straight Final Four."

There you have it. Don't look at any other national brackets because there is an overwhelming theory floating around that Texas Tech will lose in the first round to Utah State.
