Texas Tech Football Adds Evan Rambo to Roster After Spring Football
The Red Raiders have gone on a talent adding spree in the last two weeks, bringing on two defensive backs, a running back, and now a linebacker to the 2019 class. Three of the new bodies, including the latest one, are grad transfers.
Evan Rambo, listed as a linebacker for Texas Tech, played safety at Cal. The difference in position, though, is pure semantics. Rambo is coming to play the spur position, which is a hybrid defensive back that can play in the box and close to the line of scrimmage.
Rambo is a 6'4", 210-pound lanky defender that missed a season due to injury after a promising freshman campaign and start to his sophomore season. His junior year was spotty, but showed flashes of success. He was originally a 3-star recruit from Pasadena, California.
In 22 games at Cal, Rambo had 33 tackles with four tackles for a loss and two sacks. He also has one career interception.
There isn't really anyone on the roster that compares to Rambo as far as physical traits goes. Xavier Benson, a redshirt freshman linebacker, is close at 6'3", 200 pounds, but that's about it.
I expect Rambo to get a crack at the starting lineup in the Spur role, and at the very least, play meaningful time.
