Texas Tech Football Adds Another Grad Transfer at Receiver
RJ Turner is a 5th year senior coming to Lubbock, Texas for a victory lap in a Power 5 program after three productive seasons at UL Monroe. In his career at ULM Turner turned in 98 catches for 1669 yards and 10 touchdowns. The quick math there is that Turner averaged 17 yards per catch during his career as an outside wide receiver.
Turner is listed as 6'2" 204 but he plays bigger than that with an excellent skill set for high pointing balls and being physical. If you want a bit of a comparison Anthony Johnson who played at Buffalo the last two seasons is a similar receiver who is now a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. A Texas Tech comp might be Eric Ward.
You can also tell by watching Turner that not all 6'2" frames are equal. Turner carries an impressive wingspan. Turner is also in a unique situation coming into a Power 5 conference from a smaller one. The UL Monroe Warhawks played at least two Power 5 teams a year and play in a conference with notable teams like App State.
Overall this signing is just another sneaky good depth signing for Coach Wells and his staff who is quietly turning in a solid 2019 class.
