In the last few weeks, Texas Tech fans have been on an emotional roller coaster.

First, there was the brutal loss in the NCAA tournament where they were just a layup away from advancing to the Sweet 16. Then, rumors swirled about Kyler Edwards and Kevin McCullar being unhappy and wanting to transfer. More rumors swirled about the rest of the roster.

But it was OK. Chris Beard is great at rebuilding rosters. We all know what happened next. A week of silence, followed by the biggest heel turn since Bash at the Beach in 1996.

Kyler Edwards officially entered the transfer portal. So did Micah Peavy and Marcus Santos-Silva. A head coaching search was underway, said Texas Tech president Dr. Lawrence Schovanec.

Quickly, a candidate emerged via social media with the hashtag #hiremark.

After a weekend of interviews, the #hiremark hashtag became #hiredmark after Kirby Hocutt made it official. Now, I'm not saying that the grassroots campaign and fan support got Mark Adams promoted to head coach of Texas Tech men's basketball. Adams has the resume and skill to get the job without it. I will say that fan support certainly didn't hurt.

I'll mention Beard just one last time. At some point, we have to move on. When he was heading into his press conference in in Austin, this was the scene. No fans, a couple of cheerleaders, and some burnt orange carpet.

Texas Tech fans don't want to see that limp welcome for Mark Adams. The Raider Riot and Two Docs Brewing Co. have partnered to throw a welcoming party for fans to welcome Mark Adams and celebrate his promotion to head coach.

According to Texas Tech, Adams's press conference will be at 6 p.m. at the United Supermarkets Arena and will be open to the public, but starting at 4 p.m. the party will get going at the southeast corner of the arena. There will be live music and free beer courtesy of Two Docs Brewing Co.
