The Red Raiders had some good news today about quarterback Alan Bowman on the injury front, but the news wasn't all good for the Red Raiders on the health front.

After Matt Wells held his weekly Zoom press conference, defensive lineman Tony Bradford Jr. stepped up to the podium and mentioned that Nelson Mbanasor was now out for the season.

The A-J's Don Williams caught the story and reached out to Texas Tech for confirmation. The story has now been confirmed:

Mbanasor played solid snaps behind Eli Howard on the defensive line, along with Tyree Wilson. When Wells took over in December 2018, Mbanasor was planning to transfer out, but was convinced by Wells to stay with the Red Raiders.

After playing in 11 games last season, Mbanasor had a great camp according to the coaching staff, and was on pace to be a solid rotational player in 2020.

Now, he'll miss the rest of the season.

Defensive coordinator Keith Patterson mentioned Philip Bilidi and Tyree Wilson as players that would need to step up in that position. He also talked about Tony Bradford, Jr. and David Drew as guys who can play across the defensive line.

The depth on the Red Raiders defensive line was a positive before the season started, but with every injury, that obviously hurts.

Heading into the rest of Big 12 play after starting 0-2 in conference play, the team will need the defensive line to be a strong point if Texas Tech wants to continue to have opportunities to win games.
