Sutherlands Employee Runs Over Shoplifting Suspect in Jeep
On Wednesday, February 3rd, an employee of a local Sutherlands ran over a man that was suspected of stealing from the store.
KAMC News reports that Lubbock Police responded to the Sutherlands in the 3700 block of 50th Street at around 11:44 a.m. Police responded to reports of theft.
It's being reported that the employee, unidentified, was working inside the business when he says he saw the suspect, who also hasn't been publicly identified, run out of the business with what looked like stolen items.
The employee entered his Jeep and chases the suspect, who was running on foot. The suspect is then said to have gotten on a bike that he left by a dumpster and began riding away.
At some point, the suspect fell off of the bike, but the employee in the Jeep wasn't able to stop fast enough and ran over the suspect. The employee stayed on the scene and the suspect was taken to University Medical Center by EMS. A family member of the suspect says that they suffered very serious injuries as a result of being run over.
Police have confirmed that the stolen items had been recovered.
Sutherlands has yet to comment on the situation.
