Kudos to the Warner Bros. marketing department for keeping the main villain of Suicide Squad secret for so long, and although that may change in the next month as David Ayer’s film begins screening for critics, for now it remains an intriguing mystery. That mystery deepens in a new interview with a couple of the film’s producers, who reveal that the enigmatic “adversary” isn’t the only foe the Squad will have to contend with next month.

Ayer previously hinted at the Suicide Squad villain, whom he coyly referred to as the “adversary,” and though we have yet to see this baddie, the trailers have revealed his henchmen: Strange humanoid-like creatures with tiny eyes all over their heads. That’s about all we know so far, but while speaking with ComicBook.com, producer Richard Suckle promised that all will be revealed in due time:

Oh, you will find out who the Adversary is. That is for sure. You will find out not only who the Adversary is but why they exist, who is part and parcel and who is behind them. You definitely find that out in this movie for sure.

In their recent Suicide Squad cover story, EW debuted an extended synopsis for the film, which reveals that the villain is not of this world — so make of that what you will, and let your speculation run wild about Lex Luthor’s involvement or how Ayer’s film is connected to Justice League.

Oh, and the “adversary” isn’t the only big bad the Squad will have to deal with, as producer Andy Horwitz adds:

There’s multiple adversaries that the Squad has to contend with over the course of the movie of which the Joker is one of them.

Many fans speculated that Ayer’s Squad would run afoul of the Clown Prince of Crime, and that speculation appears to be correct. But will Jared Leto’s Joker ultimately align himself with the team to battle the mysterious Adversary, or will he stay out of the fight to come?

We’ll find out on August 5, when Suicide Squad hits theaters.
