Old Spider-Man Tobey Maguire Praises New Spider-Man Tom Holland With Hilarious Fan Video
Tom Holland has officially taken up the Spider-Man mantle for Marvel and Sony, but he’ll never replace Tobey Maguire in the deepest, web-covered corners of our hearts. Following his debut in Captain America: Civil War, fans and critics agree that Holland makes for a fantastic Spidey. You might even say he’s an…amazing…Spider-Man. And it looks like he has one very awesome fan in particular who knows a thing or two about web-slinging.
Former Spider-Man Tobey Maguire took to Instagram to praise new Spider-Man Tom Holland, sharing a pretty funny fan-made video that cuts together footage from Sam Raimi’s films with Civil War:
I especially love how Maguire is like, “seriously, who made this?” As if he’s going to comb through and vet all 516 of those comments to figure it out. Let’s have a moment of silence for his poor assistant.
Anyway, it’s not as if Maguire would throw shade at his successor, even if the actor / movie were bad. He even took time out to interview Andrew Garfield before the release of the not-so-amazing Amazing Spider-Man.
As for Maguire, he’s done okay for himself since his Spidey-run ended, most recently playing troubled chess champ Bobby Fisher in Pawn Sacrifice, and weirdly appearing in the YA sci-fi flick The 5th Wave. Oh, and lest you forget, we could have lived in a world where Maguire wasn’t Spider-Man — we almost got a Jake Gyllenhaal Spidey instead.
