Sexual Conduct With 8th Grade Student: Man Confesses in Apology Letter
Former Muleshoe ISD Band Director 61-year-old William Alan Shelly has pleaded guilty to enticement of a minor.
Shelly used to be the Band Director for Watson Junior High School and Muleshoe High School.
It was confirmed by Muleshoe ISD on Wednesday, March 10th, 2021 that Shelly was placed on administrative leave after they received reports of misconduct between him and a student. He was placed on leave immediately after the district received that information.
In a statement from Muleshoe ISD, they said this:
Student safety is a paramount concern to Muleshoe ISD. The District’s policies concerning employee conduct towards students are strictly enforced, and District employees receive regular training on the prohibitions against improper conduct toward children and students.
KAMC News reports that Shelly admitted to having sexual contact with an 8th grade student that was around 13 to 14 years old. It's said the criminal activity lasted from January to March of 2021.
Court records said that Shelly wrote an apology letter to the girl's parents and to his own sister for what he did. On top of the confession, police searched Shelly's phone and found messages that confirmed it.
If Shelly's plea deal is accepted, he will be sentenced at a later time to a minimum of 10 years and a maximum of life in prison.
