For years, the world’s greatest minds have searched for the answer to life’s greatest mystery; the one question that could not be answered:

Scooby-Doo, where are you?”

Now, at last, we finally have the answer — he’s in this new animated movie.

It is titled Scoob! and it is apparently an origin story for the mystery-solving dog and his pals. As it turns out Scooby-Doo was named after Scooby Snacks, and not the other way around. The mind boggles at the implications.

Here’s the trailer for Scoob!

And here’s the official synopsis:

The first full-length animated Scooby-Doo adventure for the big screen is the never-before told stories of Scooby-Doo’s origins and the greatest mystery in the career of Mystery Inc. “SCOOB!” reveals how lifelong friends Scooby and Shaggy first met and how they joined with young detectives Fred, Velma and Daphne to form the famous Mystery Inc. Now, with hundreds of cases solved and adventures shared, Scooby and the gang face their biggest, most challenging mystery ever: a plot to unleash the ghost dog Cerberus upon the world.  As they race to stop this global “dogpocalypse,” the gang discovers that Scooby has a secret legacy and an epic destiny greater than anyone imagined.

Look, I’m on the record stating that I believe that Scooby-Doo is dumb. Yes, I am the Scooby-Doo Cinematic Universe’s Martin Scorsese. I wear that badge proudly. So this doesn’t do much for me. (Did I need to see how Shaggy and Scooby met? No, I did not.) The animation looks slick, though. I imagine it will make Scooby-Doo fans very happy, and I’m happy for them. Scoob! opens in theaters on May 15, 2020.
