Hakuna Matata! ScarJo and Jon Favreau Talk ‘Lion King’ Live-Action Reboot
Still strongly beloved by 90's kids -- and their kids -- in the two decades since its release, The Lion King has proven it "ain't no passing craze." It's this hefty legacy that weighs on director Jon Favreau's mind as he makes moves to create a live-action reboot of the film.
On Friday (April 21), Favreau was interviewed by Avengers costar Scarlett Johansson at the Tribeca Film Festival. The duo also worked together on Favreau's remake of The Jungle Book, in which ScarJo played talking snake Kaa.
Favreau shared the following with Black Widow, as reported by Yahoo! Movies:
"The Jungle Book was 50 years ago, Lion King was 20, and people grew up with it in an age of video where they’re watching it over and over again. So, I have to really examine all of those plot points. Also, the myths are very strong in that, so you’re hitting something even deeper than the movie sometimes. What I’m trying to do is honor what was there...there are certain expectations people have."
Favreau added that he wants to throw in some fun surprises as well. Among the actors slated to be in the film are Donald Glover and James Earl Jones, and, if Favreau gets his wish, possibly even Beyoncé.
"Can you feel the love" yet for this remake?
