Rita Ora Covers Beyonce’s ‘Drunk in Love’ at BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend
Beyonce's hit song 'Drunk in Love' has been covered by so many of music's biggest names in the past few months that even we've lost count. That's not something that deterred Roc Nation songstress Rita Ora as she added her version to the mix at BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend on Saturday (May 24).
"Thank you so much for having us," she told the roaring crowd. "Me and my band are so excited to perform because this is the first time we're doing stuff we haven't done before. But don't worry, we'll still play the tunes."
One of the unexpected treats she gave the audience was her take on 'Drunk In Love.' Instead of simply performing a straightforward cover, the 'I Will Never Let You Down' singer did a mashup combining Queen Bey's hit with Coldplay's 'Magic.'
Ora started off the performance with a stripped down and soulful version of the Coldplay tune, the otherwise pop-rock track transformed into an R&B song. As her backup singers did their best Chris Martin-impression, Ora transitioned into 'Drunk in Love.'
While it seems like the mashup is its own beast, Rita takes things back to the original Bey sound by putting her vocals on the love song.
Rita Ora performed on the same stage as her boyfriend DJ/ producer Calvin Harris. We're willing to bet the passion in her 'Drunk ...' rendition had something to do with her man.
