‘Power Rangers’ Star Sentenced to Jail for Stabbing Roommate to Death With Sword
A former Power Rangers star has been sentenced to six years of jail time — the maximum possible for his conviction — after killing his roommate upon stabbing him multiple times with a sword in January 2015.
TMZ reports that Ricardo Medina Jr. was sentenced today (March 30) after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter during a March 16 hearing. Medina previously admitted that he killed Josh Sutter after an argument that stemmed from a dispute over where Medina's girlfriend parked her car.
According to The Los Angeles Times, Medina grabbed the sword when Sutter began to force his way into his bedroom, and then stabbed Sutter several times with the weapon. Eventually, Medina called 911.
Medina was released just days after his original 2015 arrest after claiming that he had acted in self-defense. He was then arrested again in January 2016 and formally charged with first-degree murder. The charge was eventually reduced as part of a plea deal.
Medina had appeared on Power Rangers Samurai in 2011 and Power Rangers Wild Force in 2002. He also had guest roles on E.R. and C.S.I. Miami.
