Original story: Lubbock police are investigating a deadly accident Tuesday morning (February 12th) in West Lubbock.

KAMC News reports that at 6:30 a.m., a woman was struck and killed by a school bus belonging to Levelland ISD.

Since the accident, police have closed all eastbound lanes of 19th Street between Alcove Avenue and Inler Avenue to investigate the scene.

The westbound lanes of 19th Street were reduced to a single lane as well, and all eastbound lanes could remain closed for several hours.

Levelland ISD Superintendent Jeff Northern released the following statement about the accident:

At approximately 6:30 a.m. today, February 12, 2019, the Levelland ISD administration was informed that one of its school buses carrying 15 students to an out-of-town extracurricular activity had been involved in an accident involving a pedestrian. The school bus was traveling eastbound on Highway 114/19th Street when it struck a pedestrian near the intersection of Highway 114 and Alcove Street in Lubbock. It is the District’s understanding that the pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. None of the Levelland ISD students nor the bus driver or coach were injured in the incident.

Following their providing witness statements to law enforcement, all LISD students were transported back to Levelland by the District where they and their families have been offered counselling and support services by the District.

Federal and state privacy laws prohibit the District from disclosing any personally identifiable student information. The District is cooperating with Lubbock law enforcement as it continues its investigation into the accident.

The entire Levelland ISD community is deeply saddened by this event. The superintendent asks that we offer our prayers and support for the family of the pedestrian who was involved in this unfortunate accident.
