This past weekend was a sad one in Post, Texas, as it was the final weekend of Old Mill Trade Days at the iconic Old Mill.

The operators of the Old Mill Trade Days took to Facebook on Friday evening to announce that Sunday, June 11th is when the gates would close for the last time.

According to a Facebook post, the "dynamic economic time" led to tough decisions regarding the future of the Old Mill Trade Days:

Notice:
The June show at Old Mill Trade Days will be it’s last and we will be closing the gates for the last time on Sunday June 11.
Tough decisions had to be made as to the continued operation of the show in this very dynamic economic time and wish to thank all of our vendors and customers who have been a part of our little village at Old Mill. You all made this a fun, family friendly environment and we hope we made an impact on the Post community while we were open.
Saturday hours will be 9am-3pm and Sunday 10am -3pm.
Please come shop, eat, and listen to some great music while we are still open.
Thank you again,
The Old Mill Family.

If you aren't familiar with Old Mill Trade Days, you really missed out. It was the Farmer's Market of Farmer's Markets when it was booming. You could buy eggs, meat, purses, shoes, high-end antiques and furniture along with repurposed pieces. They had music and food as well. It only cost $2 per adult to get in, and you could spend hours there.

This was the second version of the Old Mill Trade Days. In 2016, Old Mill Trade Days opened for the second weekend of the month each month until wrapping up this past weekend. The original Old Mill Trade Days ran from 1994 until 2008.

With the rise of local and numerous Farmer's Markets in Lubbock and elsewhere, it had to hurt attendance and the amount of vendors who would choose to drive down to Post. And after battling the COVID-19 pandemic and now record high inflation, there's much uncertainty in the economy about what may come next.

But don't count out the Old Mill or Old Mill Trade Days. The Old Mill opened in 1912 and shut down for good in 1984. But the Old Mill took on a new life in 1994 through 2008 as Old Mill Trade Days. It took nearly a decade, but the Old Mill was back to seeing activity with the latest version of Old Mill Trade Days.

So while this is the end of the current Old Mill Trade Days, it may be too early to say that this is for good.
