New Head Football Coaches Hired at Slaton and Idalou High Schools

Football season never ends in Texas.

Whether it's the NFL, college or high school, something is always going on with football teams across the state. This week, it's the NFL Draft, and high schools continuing to fill varsity head coaching vacancies before the end of the current school year.

It just so happens that on Wednesday, both the Idalou and Slaton ISD boards of trustees approved hirings of new head football coaches for Idalou High School and Slaton High School, respectively.

The Slaton Tigers new head football coach is an internal promotion. Defensive coordinator Jacob Dangerfield was officially promoted to Athletic Director/Head Football Coach on Wednesday. Dangerfield has also served as Slaton's head coach for track & field during his time with the Tigers.

Over in Idalou, the Wildcats new head football coach is coming from the Big Country.

Wednesday, the Idalou ISD Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Dustin Todd from Jim Ned High School. Todd will become Idalou High School's new Athletic Director/Head Football Coach.

Jim Ned has had recent success on the gridiron, winning the UIL 2020 3A Division 1 State Championship. As reported by Pete Christy, Coach Todd was previously Jim Ned's co-offensive coordinator.

Last week, Idalou lost their offensive coordinator to Lockney, as Ryan McCallister was hired as Lockney’s new Head Football Coach/AD.

This week, marks four months away from the start of the 2022 high school football season in Texas.  Dave Campbell's Texas Football reports there are still about 25 11-man varsity head coaching vacancies to be filled across the state.
