Networking Workshop to Help Lubbock Bands Being Held in November
The Lubbock Cultural Arts Foundation and the Lubbock Music Friendly Advisory Committee have come together to hold a workshop in November. The workshop, named "Getting the Gig", will focus on providing local musicians with information and networking resources needed to secure venues, or gigs.
Aside from just learning about the business the musicians will have an opportunity to put their freshly learned networking skills in the industry to use by meeting with venue owners and managers. Scott Faris, the owner of Amusement Park Recording Studio, will be moderating a panel discussion. The panel will be made of local venue representatives from Two Docs Brewery, the Cotton Court, Cooks Garage, Cactus Theatre and workshop host Blue Light. The local venue representatives will explain some behind the scenes details on how each venue selects their musicians.
After the panel discussion is concluded there will be a showcase where one of bands will be picked to perform for the audience and panelists. Musicians must submit an application online prior to the workshop along with samples of previous venue bookings and performances.
The "Getting the Gig" workshop will be held on November 15 from noon to 4pm at The Blue Light. The Wolfforth local restaurant The Tamale Lady will be providing lunch for this event. More information about this workshop, along with registration, can be found online at Lubbockculturalarts.org.
