Multiple Car Accidents on South Loop 289 and Marsha Sharp Freeway
Multiple car accidents on Loop 289 and the Marsha Sharp Freeway Wednesday morning, Feb. 12th caused several brief road closures, disrupting the morning commute.
At 7:24 a.m., multiple accidents were reported by police on South Loop 289 near Indiana Avenue. For a brief period, all westbound traffic on South Loop 289 was diverted to the exit ramp at Indiana Avenue. At 8 a.m., all westbound lanes of the South Loop were back open to traffic.
Lubbock police officers also responded to multiple accidents on the Marsha Sharp Freeway between Milwaukee and Upland Avenue. Westbound traffic on Marsha Sharp was briefly diverted and kept on the access road. Those lanes have since been reopened as well.
A winter weather advisory is no longer in effect for the South Plains, but there may be black ice in some areas, especially on highways and overpasses. Lubbock police are urging drivers to slow their speed and use caution.
