Matt Wells Continues to Add to His 2020 Recruiting Class
Matt Wells hasn't stopped working during the tumultuous offseason that's had as many twists and turns as a Stephen King novel. The dead periods keep getting extended, and rules keep changing for who can be where, but the Texas Tech football staff is still out recruiting.
Obviously, when you're coming off of a 4-8 season, there are holes on your roster. Matt Wells knows that. To supplement the 2020 recruiting class, Wells has continued to add JUCO talent this spring, with TE Jason Lloyd and DE Josh Davies-Balogun being the latest additions.
Lloyd stands 6'4" and weighs 240 pounds. He caught 13 passes for 200 yards and a touchdown last season at San Mateo.
Travis Koontz is the only returnee with significant playing time as a tight end for Texas Tech, so Lloyd will be able to compete immediately for playing time.
Another JUCO addition for Texas Tech is a DE from Butler Community College Josh Davies-Balogun, who is 6'4" and 230 pounds.
The defensive line is a segment at Texas Tech next year that actually seems to have some stability, with Eli Howard, Nelson Mbanasor, and Tony Bradford Jr all returning, among others. The loss of leader Broderick Washington will definitely hurt, but the addition of Josh Davies-Balogun solidifies the group moving forward.
The new Red Raider chose Texas Tech over Kansas State, Colorado State, North Texas, and more.
