Man Wanted for Theft in Lubbock Took Officer’s Taser in Abilene
A man that was wanted in Lubbock for Felony Theft was arrested at a Walmart in Abilene after he managed to get a hold of an officer's taser.
Abilene Police were dispatched to the Walmart on Highway 351 at around 9 p.m. the night of Tuesday, August 23rd. An employee said that the suspect was attempting to fight another customer and tried stealing another customer's phone.
That man was later identified as Trevon Hayes, who initially ignored officers and refused to leave the store. As he continued to refuse officers' commands, he needed to be physically pulled out of the store.
KAMC News reports that even after he was out of the store, Hayes continued resisting arrest. At one point, he managed to grab an officer's taser, but he was never able to fire it. Hayes was eventually subdued and placed in custody.
Hayes was transported to the Taylor County Jail, where police learned that he was wanted out of Lubbock County for Theft. He currently remains in the Taylor County Jail for Criminal Trespass, Resisting Arrest, Taking a Weapon from an Officer and the warrant out of Lubbock County.
