Lubbock Snow Plows’ Areas of Operation and Priorities
Lubbock now has snow plows. The Lubbock City Council voted to purchase plows and plow attachments for dump trucks in advance of this year’s El Nino season.
City officials have confirmed at least two plows have been out since Sunday, December 27, working to keep roads clear. Their main focus is keeping the medical district clear and to plow ahead of emergency responders, who are getting stuck even with snow chains.
Major thoroughfares are the next highest concern; plows will work to clear one lane in each direction first before road crews come in to disperse salt/sand.
All Lubbock city and county residents are urged to stay indoors. First responders are unable to tow stuck cars and citizens will need to rely on towing companies. Some stuck cars are causing larger problems for first responders by blocking streets, adding to response times. Again, stay off the roads if at all possible.
With sunny skies on Monday, December 28, some snow is expected to melt, but will refreeze overnight leaving roads icier and slicker than before.
