Lubbock Shooting Suspect Claims to Have Not Known His Victim

The details surrounding the shooting that happened at the Market Street at 4425 19th Street in Lubbock have been revealed.

Police responded a bit after 6 a.m. on Sunday, November 8th.

The suspect, 34-year-old Robert Joseph Baker, is said to have been waiting in the parking lot when he shot 44-year-old Jason Halloway. KAMC News reports that Baker then went to the nearby United Express gas station and shot the building, and after that, he drove to Covenant Medical Center and shot his own vehicle.

Baker told investigators he was suffering from COVID-19 related symptoms. He told them he drove to Market Street because it was close to Covenant, and that he didn't know the victim or have any malice towards Market Street.

Baker apparently wanted to check himself into Covenant for his COVID-19 related issues.

Baker admitted to shooting Halloway, the convenience store and his vehicle. Why Baker decided to fire at another person, a store and his own vehicle still hasn't been made clear.

A witness says they saw Baker fire at Halloway, and they followed him all the way to Covenant. An off-duty officer arrested Baker at Covenant. Aside from Halloway, no injuries were reported. No shots were actually fired at Covenant, either.

Baker is being held in the Lubbock County Detention Center for murder. His bond has been set at $350,000.
