Lubbock Police Say Woman Intentionally Abandoned her Children
A Lubbock woman was arrested after police say she intentionally abandoned her children in a dirty and hazardous apartment.
KAMC News reports that Lubbock Police were called to an apartment complex in the 2200 block of Mac Davis Lane a bit after 11 p.m. on Sunday, November 6th. Officers arrived and heard 2 young children fighting inside the apartment.
An 11-year-old girl opened the door and said that it was only her and her 3 and 4-year-old siblings there. Police located the children hiding inside a cabinet in the bathroom.
The oldest child then called her mother, 31-year-old Katherine Richardson, who police say was shouting and cursing over the phone. Over the phone, Richardson told police that she had only gone to a nearby store and was going to be back in a few minutes. The oldest child claimed that Richardson would often leave the kids alone while she was out running errands or working.
Police described the apartment as dirty with several hazards that could have injured the children. There was also a limited amount of food and drinks around the apartment. The children told police that they were home-schooled, as well.
Richardson was arrested and transported to the Lubbock County Detention Center on 3 counts of abandoning a child.
