Three people were arrested after a small child was found outside in 100-degree heat.

KAMC news reports that the Lubbock Police Department was called to an apartment complex in the 4500 block of Ironton Avenue just after 4:15 p.m. on July 28th. A staff member from the apartment complex's front office called Lubbock police and said a small child was found outside, it was later determined the child had walked across the over 100-degree parking lot without shoes on.

The police report did state that this was not the first time the child had been found outside alone. Lubbock police then went to the apartment where they discovered that the door was unlocked and that no one was home. A little after 6:30 p.m. is when officers say that the child's mother, 20-year-old Katherine Carillo, showed up stating she left her child under the care of her roommates while she was at work.

Within 30 minutes of Carillo getting to the apartment, both of the roommates, 22-year-old Almazen Abdel and 21-year-old Muhannad Abdel, showed up to the apartment and confessed to locking all the doors and leaving the child unattended. The brothers were arrested and charged with child abandonment or neglect.

An officer went to the Abdels' vehicle after being asked to retrieve a phone. There the officer saw the vehicle was still running and turned it off. The officer said they looked for the key fob to lock the vehicle and discovered three small bags of cocaine. Carillo and the Abdel brothers are being held in the Lubbock County Detention Center. No bond was set at the publication of this story.
