Lubbock Man Accused of Setting His Mother On Fire Found Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity
A Lubbock man who was accused of setting his mother on fire and killing her has been found not guilty by reason of insanity.
Forty-one-year-old George James Bradley III was arrested in May 2011 and has been jailed since.
A police report claims that Bradley poured gasoline on his mother and lit her on fire. It also says that he went to a nearby school and held four teachers at knife point. Bradley allegedly attempted to sexually assault a woman and swung his knife at another person.
KAMC News reports that a motion was filed suggesting Bradley was incompetent to stand trial.
Bradley underwent multiple psychological examinations until an attorney suggested in 2016 that the court look at the issue of insanity.
Bradley is to be transferred to a state mental hospital in Vernon, Texas where he will stay indefinitely.
