Police Tase and Arrest Lubbock Man Armed With Machete
A Lubbock man was arrested on Saturday, December 12th after police say he attempted to rob a store with a machete.
Lubbock police officers responded to the 3900 block of Avenue Q at around 9 p.m. to reports of a man with a large knife threatening a cashier and threatening to stab people. That man, 27-year-old Joseph Dalton Gilbert, was located by an officer walking away from the Sonik Food Mart.
KAMC News reports the officer asked Gilbert to stop walking away, but he refused and continue to head towards a nearby Bolton's location. It's said that the officer then drew his gun, but held off on firing due to the risk of those inside Bolton's potentially being struck.
Gilbert opened the front door to Bolton's, and the officer closed the door on his body to prevent him from entering. Eventually, Gilbert put the knife on top of an ATM, but still refused to comply with the officer's order. More officers arrived at the scene, but Gilbert continued to refuse orders.
Another officer tased Gilbert. After he continued resisting, one of the officers began to punch him to get him to comply.
EMS was called to the scene, and Gilbert was taken to the Lubbock County Sheriff's Office. He was charged with evading arrest and aggravated robbery.
